About Us
Scaling Community Power through Recycling & Upcycling
PERHILAS was born from a belief that communities, when empowered, can solve environmental problems from the ground up.
Our Direction
Our Vision and Mission
PERHILAS exists to transform how Sabahan communities engage with plastic waste — turning an environmental burden into an economic opportunity and a source of cultural pride.
Our vision and mission are rooted in the belief that lasting change comes from community ownership, not top-down intervention.
Our Vision
A Sabah where no plastic is wasted, every community thrives, and circular economy principles are lived daily.
Our Mission
To reduce plastic waste, empower communities through recycling and upcycling, and create sustainable livelihoods across Sabah's villages.
What We Stand For
Our Values
These values guide every decision, every workshop, and every partnership we make at PERHILAS.
Community + Empowerment
We walk alongside communities, not above them. Every decision is made with and for the people we serve, ensuring real ownership of change.
Integrity + Transparency
Everything we do is open, honest, and accountable. We believe trust is built through consistent action, not promises.
Education + Growth
We believe knowledge is the most powerful tool for change. Through training, mentorship, and learning, we grow together.
Sustainability + Action
Real change requires moving from words to deeds. We pursue practical, measurable actions that create lasting environmental impact.

Meet Our Founder
Saila Saidie
Saila Saidie left a career in journalism to dedicate herself fully to environmental and community work. Her journey began in the villages of Sabah, where she witnessed firsthand how plastic waste was devastating ecosystems and livelihoods alike.
Under her leadership, PERHILAS has grown from a grassroots initiative into an internationally recognised sustainability organisation, representing Sabah at the G20 Global Land Initiative and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
